The Just for Kidz  program (affiliated with the Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling) is designed for children, ages 0-18, and their families in the Wheeling and surrounding areas.

There are three aspects to the program:

  1. Wednesday Night Dinner
  2. School Supply Distribution
  3. Christmas Gifts

Wednesday Night Dinner

Every Wednesday night, from 4pm-6pm, we offer families a delicious, home cooked meal in a fun, laid back, stress-free environment.   We also provide the kids with activities to keep them occupied.  Some activities include board games, crafts, animal demonstrations, and ice cream socials.

School Supply Distribution

In August, every child signed up on the program receives a backpack filled with all of their school supplies, a new outfit, shoes and a jacket.  We also have a distribution party with food and games and pass out their bags along with toiletries and make-up.  We want our kids to start off the school year on the right foot with a sense of pride.

Christmas Gifts

During the Christmas season the families on our program receive ALL of their Christmas gifts.  Each child fills out a "Dear Santa" wish list earlier in the year and along with those items, they receive new shoes, a few outfits, and a winter coat.

How does this happen?

Each child is paired with an anonymous "sponsor" who receives information through the mail at back to school and Christmas time.  Some sponsors keep the same child from year to year while others prefer to have different children.  Sponsors can take as many children as they wish (some take entire families!) and a lot of times, they get a group of people to all pitch in and work together.
